Sodium bicarbonate, with the molecular formula NaHCO3, is an inorganic compound. It is a white powder or fine crystal, odorless, salty in taste, highly soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol (some say insoluble), and its aqueous solution is slightly alkaline. It decomposes easily when heated. It decomposes slowly in moist air, generating carbon dioxide.It begins to decompose at about 50ºC and is completely decomposed when heated to 270ºC. 
It decomposes strongly when exposed to acid, generating carbon dioxide. Sodium bicarbonate is widely used in industrial fields such as chemical engineering, medicine, food, light industry, and textile, as well as in People's Daily lives, and holds an important position in the national economy.
