It is often used in DNA extraction to denature proteins and separate them from DNA. It is commonly mispronounced as sodium dodecyl sulfonate (SDS') (NaC12H25SO3). Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) is widely used as a blowing agent in toothpaste, soap, shower gel, shampoo, laundry powder, and cosmetics. Sodium lauryl sulfate is found in 95% of personal skin care products and household cleaning products.
