What is Benzoic Acid?

Benzoic acid is an aromatic acid organic compound and the simplest aromatic acid, with the formula C7H6O2. Originally made from benzoin gum, so called benzoin acid, slightly with benzaldehyde or benzoin smell. At room temperature of 25ºC or so, the PKa value is 4.2, which is a simple weak acid, but its acidity is stronger than that of fatty acids, and it has a stable chemical structure and is not easy to be oxidized. The appearance is white acicular or scaly crystal. It will sublimate above 100 ºC. Slightly soluble in cold water, hexane, hot water, ethanol, ether, chloroform, benzene, carbon disulfide and turpentine, etc.
