Manganese chloride is a compound with the formula MnCl2·xH2O, where x has the value 0 or 2 or 4. Manganese chloride tetrahydrate is a pink salt that occurs in nature as a rare manganese chloride ore. Usually, manganese chloride refers to MnCl2·4H2O, an octahedral anti-Mn (H2O)4Cl2 molecule. The dihydrate MnCl2·2H2O is also present. Many Mn(II) compounds exhibit a characteristic light pink color, which is caused by the d5 spin of the transition metal.

Usage
